Today’s featured balloon artist is Chloe Simmons owner of CJK Balloons. I am so made up to feature Chloe as Chloe is local to my area and I have loved watching her business blossom over the last year!
Hi there Chloe! Tell everyone a little about you and your business
Hi:) my names Chloe and I have been in the industry for around 14 months now and am absolutely loving it. I previously had experience by working in a local shop in Gravesend until the owners retired, I’m very lucky to have met so many lovely people in the industry who I can ask for help and advise including you Sonia.
I work from my home and am based in Medway but travel further afield. We have a variety of balloon orders in all different areas Gravesend, Dartford, Gillingham and surrounding areas.
I also strive to learn new skill within the industry and attend many courses.
What made you decide to start a balloon business?
I had previous experience in a local shop and many friends constantly asking if I could do them some balloons so One day I just said oh go on then 🙂 and here I am now!
What do you love most about running your business?
Creating and designing balloons and making my customers happy !.
What has been the toughest challenge for you and how are you overcoming it?
Pricing and helium crisis…. it hard competing with other business that perhaps may not be costing correctly and therefore incorrectly price (cheaper) but I have now got to a point where I stick to my pricing if I get it then fabulous if not then I just have to leave it. At the end of the day I’m a Business so need earn money.
What piece of advice would you give to yourself if you were starting out all over again?
It’s a business and you need to earn not give in !
What are your most profitable designs and how do you get customers to buy them?
I would say bubbles definitely! people seem to love them 🙂
How do you organise taking orders in your business to ensure smooth running?
I request clients to pay a deposit in order for me to purchase their stock. No deposit means I cannot confirm the day for them.
How do you store balloons and supplies for your business?
I over stock and get spares for every job so I know that I will have another should a pop or faulty balloon occur. Latex are stored in sealed containers and foils all hung on the walls nicely displayed.

Has training been important to you? What courses have you been on and what difference has that made in your business?
Yes…. loved going to Chris Adamo training and regularly talk and engage with other balloon professionals.
What are your dreams for your business?
I want my business to be a well known company in the area where people can trust and recommend to each other.
Running your own business can take over your life – how do you manage getting a work/life balance?
I work day time as well so everything is answered after 2.30pm until 4pm and then once my child is in bed.
Who in the balloon industry inspires you?
Chris Adamo most definitely and Sonia’s balloons as I would love to have a company just like yours.
I love that we are on this adventure together, ordinary people taking extra ordinary steps towards our vision. Creative entrepreneurs who had the courage to take the leap, and put one foot in front of the other so that we might have the freedom to live the lives we dream our businesses will give us.
